The Maestrazgo is a region shared between the lands of eastern Teruel and the inland villages of Castellón.
As it is a very large region of great natural beauty, with a great heritage and history, we recommend that you prepare it for short weekend getaways.
This region was an important front line in the battles of the Carlist Wars, which is why in some cases it was greatly affected by the fighting, but in other cases it benefited from the construction of villas and mansions of a certain importance and relevance among the bourgeoisie and nobility who settled in the Maestrazgo region.
Following the Camino del Cid in the direction of Castellón, a few kilometres from Cantavieja we come to another beautiful medieval village, La Iglesuela del Cid.
It has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site due to its good state of conservation and also forms part of the network of Pretty Villages of Spain.
There are many villages in the region of Maestrazgo, both in the province of Teruel and Castellón, which are part of this picturesque route known as Camino del Cid. In this link you will find all the information you need to prepare a curious tour of the villages and towns on this route, we hope you enjoy them.
